Outlaw Gravel isn’t a mass-start, all-out race from start to finish. Instead, the course is broken into timed segments where you go full gas. Between those segments, you ride at your own pace to recover, regroup, and reset.
Your overall result is based on your combined time across the timed segments, not the total ride time. That means you can race hard when it counts, then enjoy the ride in between.
For teams, timing is the cumulative time of all riders across each timed segment. Every rider’s effort counts, so it’s about riding strong together and managing the day as a team.
It’s a format that works for experienced racers who want to compete, and for newer riders who want to push themselves without the pressure of hanging onto a fast group all day.
-
Yes. You can race solo, as a team of two, or a team of four.
Solo riders take on the full course and their result is based on their own cumulative time across the timed segments.
Teams race the same course together, with results based on the cumulative time of all riders across each segment. It rewards teamwork, pacing, and riding smart as a group.
Whether you want to go all in solo or build a team and make a day of it, both formats are built into the event.

Location for the start, finish, and post-race party is Olympian Hall. We encourage you to stay with our lodging partner and ride your bike to the start line. If you must drive, parking is available. See map for details.
From there, riders are released in small, predetermined groups every 4 minutes, with a staggered start running through the 8:00–9:00 AM window.
Groups are set by the Race Director based on course and whether you’re racing solo or as a team. All riders will receive their official start time at the Saturday evening packet pickup at Ride Workshop (5–8 PM).
This is our no-chaos start. You’ll roll out with your group and warm up on the way to the first timed segment.
Seedhouse Coffee and Enzo’s Espresso will be serving caffeine-rich warm drinks at the start line.

Not for Outlaw Gravel.
We’ve partnered with two downtown Steamboat hotels offering strong discounts for racers. They’re just a quick spin, about 90 seconds, from the start and finish.
We chose these spots for a reason: easy parking, rider-friendly, and right in the middle of everything. Once you’re here, you can park the car and forget it. Walk to restaurants, breweries, the river, live music, and the race.
We’ve traveled for races. We know the stress. This one’s built to be easy.
-
Yes. All roads are open to traffic and riders must follow the rules of the road at all times.
Racing is confined to designated timed segments, but vehicles may still be present. Stay aware, ride smart, and respect the course, our volunteers, and the community.
Your safety, and the safety of everyone involved, is our top priority. Riders who ignore traffic laws or disrespect locals will be pulled from the race and will not receive a time.
No gray area here.
-
We’ve got you covered.
There’s an aid station just after Timed Segment 1 at mile 17.5. Riders on the long course will hit a second aid station at mile 54, just after Timed Segment 3.
We’ll also have roaming support vehicles and a sweep team on course to help with mechanicals or issues along the way.
And… wouldn’t be Outlaw without a surprise or two out there.

The post-race party runs from 11–4 at Olympian Hall. The finish line is the main attraction—watch racers push through the “One More” finish line sprint as the band cranks at the finish line.
Racers will receive a fresh, locally made burrito, and spectators can grab burgers and burritos from Tess and Travis, local food truck extraordinaires. Beer, NA beer, and options for the non-beer crowd will be flowing.
Expect some good-natured shit talking, likely a few bruises, and plenty of smiles. Kick back, connect with sponsors, rest your legs, and take in the views of Howelsen Hill,
